Why Guided Meditations Can Be So Supportive on Your Fertility and Spirit Baby Path

A Gentle Way Back to Your Body, Breath, and Intuition
There are times on the fertility path when it can feel as though your mind never truly rests. This definitely happened to me during my fertility journey.
You may be thinking about timing, appointments, decisions, test results, next steps or all the things you believe you should be doing. Even when nothing is happening in the moment, your mind may still be searching for an answer, trying to understand what comes next or attempting to protect you from another disappointment.
For this reason, I love guided meditation and have found over the years that people who work with me tend to love them too.
A guided meditation gives your thinking mind something loving and intentional to follow. Instead of asking you to stop thinking, which is nearly impossible for most of us, it helps direct your awareness toward your breath, your body, your imagination and the quieter wisdom within you.
It creates a bridge between the part of you that wants to figure everything out and the deeper part of you that already knows how to listen, receive and connect.
Moving Out of Your Head and Back Into Your Body
The fertility experience can become very mental. There is so much information to take in and often so much to manage. Your mind has an important role in helping you make decisions and care for yourself, yet it isn’t meant to carry the entire experience alone. As Walter Makichen said to me, "If you stop trying to think yourself through this, you might have a chance at getting pregnant." I was very much in my head and not in my body when I first met Walter.
Guided meditations can help you return to your body.
As you follow the sound of a voice, become aware of your breathing and notice the sensations within you; your attention begins to move away from constant analysis. You may become more aware of where you’re holding tension, what emotions are asking to be acknowledged, or what you need in that particular moment.
This is not about forcing yourself to relax or make anything happen. You are simply creating the conditions in which your body can begin to soften in its own time and in its own way.
This matters because relaxation supports more than how you feel emotionally. Slow, intentional breathing and other relaxation practices can help quiet the body’s stress response. Research on meditation and mindfulness also suggests benefits for stress, anxiety, emotional well-being and, for some people, sleep quality.*
Meditation is not a fertility treatment, and being relaxed does not guarantee pregnancy. It is, however, a meaningful way to support your whole self while you are trying to conceive, moving through fertility treatment, considering another path to parenthood, healing after loss or simply listening for what is next.
When your entire system is not working so hard to stay alert, there can be more room to receive support, insight, love, possibility and the messages arising from within you.
Opening the Door to Imagination and Intuition
Imagination is sometimes dismissed as though it is the opposite of truth. I see it differently.
Your imagination can be one of the languages through which your intuition communicates. An image, color, sensation, word or unexpected knowing may arise before your analytical mind has had time to explain it.
Guided meditation invites you into that more receptive inner space. You are no longer relying only on what you can logically determine. You are allowing yourself to notice what you sense.
This can be especially meaningful when you are connecting with your Spirit Baby.
Spirit Baby communication does not look or feel the same for everyone. You may receive a clear image or message. You may feel warmth, peace, emotion or a loving presence. You may remember something later in the day and suddenly understand it differently. You may not perceive anything distinct at all during the meditation, and that does not mean you did it incorrectly or that a connection is not present.
The purpose is not to perform, prove or produce a specific experience. It is to become available to your own experience.
Shifting Your Energy Toward the Spirit Baby Realm
I often describe Spirit Baby connection as a process of becoming more attuned.
Spirit Babies exist at a different frequency from the one we typically occupy while answering emails, making appointments, completing tasks and moving through daily life. Guided meditation can help you shift away from the density of worry and mental effort and toward a quieter, more spacious vibration.
You do not have to reach some perfectly elevated state. You are not trying to leave your body. In fact, grounding more fully into your body can help you become clearer and more discerning about what you are sensing.
As your breathing settles and your awareness expands, it may become easier to notice the subtle impressions that are often missed when your mind is busy. With practice, you begin to recognize what connection feels like for you.
That recognition is empowering. You are not dependent on someone else to tell you whether your intuition is real. You are developing a relationship with your own inner knowing.
Meditation Can Help You Learn About Yourself
Every meditation is also an opportunity to become more aware of yourself.
You might notice where your mind goes when you become quiet. You might discover a fear that is asking for compassion, a belief that no longer feels true, or a desire you have not fully acknowledged. You might become aware of how difficult it is to receive, rest, trust or allow yourself to be supported.
None of this means that you are blocking your baby or doing something wrong.
It is a way of building awareness and information offered with awareness can become an invitation. You cannot change anything if you are not first aware of it. Once you become aware of something, you can meet what arises with curiosity rather than judgment and choose how you want to care for yourself from there.
Sometimes the most important realization in a meditation is the quiet recognition that your body, mind, or soul is asking for more rest. Perhaps you have been asking too much of yourself or your heart is inviting reassurance. Maybe you are ready to make a different choice or you become aware of the fact that there is more love and connection available to you than you had allowed yourself to feel.
What If Your Mind Wanders?
Your mind will wander. Mine certainly does!
A wandering mind means you have a human mind, not that you can't meditate.
When you realize you have drifted into a thought, a plan, or a memory, simply bring your awareness back to your body and your breath. Feel the support beneath you. Notice the next inhale and exhale. Then begin following the meditation again.
Begin again from wherever you are and trust that what you receive on any particular day is exactly what you are meant to receive.
Each return is part of the practice. Every time you notice that your attention has wandered and lovingly bring it back, you are strengthening your ability to become present without criticizing yourself. I find this to be a vital skill for the fertility journey, and the rest of life too.
What If You Fall Asleep?
I often hear from people who fall asleep while listening to my guided meditations. If this happens to you, there is no reason to believe the meditation was wasted.
Sometimes your body simply requires sleep. Sometimes the relaxation allows the analytical mind to step aside, creating space for the subconscious mind to continue receiving the themes, imagery and messages being offered.
You do not have to consciously remember every word for the experience to have value.
If you want to stay awake, you might meditate earlier in the day, sit upright, or choose a time when you are more rested. If you’re already sitting upright while listening, you might try sitting in a less comfortable chair or a less comfortable position to see if this helps you stay awake.
If you do fall asleep, you can also trust that rest may have been exactly what you needed that day.
There Is No Perfect Way to Meditate
You do not need a completely quiet mind, a particular posture, or a powerful spiritual experience.
When I was learning more about meditation, energy, and energy medicine, I almost always meditated lying down. It was rare for me to fall asleep during meditations, so this method worked well for me. I was able to relax deeply and allow the experience to unfold. This might work for you, and it might not.
There is no one way to meditate in my book. It is a bit of trial and error to see what works best for you, knowing that this may change from day to day.
Some days you may feel deeply connected, other days you may feel distracted. You may receive insight one day and simply enjoy ten minutes of rest on another. All of these experiences can be worthwhile if you allow them to be.
The value, I find, comes through returning, again and again, to your body, your breath and the deeper relationship you are building with yourself and your future child.
Over time, guided meditations can become a familiar place within you: a space where you can ground your energy, listen to your intuition, connect with your Spirit Baby and remember that you are more than the questions and circumstances you may be navigating.
You carry wisdom within you. Guided meditations help create the space to hear it.
